Before You Go: Essential UAE Travel Tips

Planning is everything. A little preparation for the UAE goes a long way. Before we dive into the day-by-day plan, here are the essential, non-negotiable tips you need to know.
1. Best Time to Visit
This is the single most important decision you’ll make.
- Peak Season (November – March): This is the “perfect” season. The weather is beautiful, with daily highs ranging from 20°C to 30°C (70°F – 86°F). This is the ideal time for beach days, desert safaris, and comfortable sightseeing. It’s also the busiest and most expensive time.
- Shoulder Season (April, May, & October): This is a great “value” time to visit. It is very hot (30°C – 38°C), but manageable. You can still enjoy the beaches in the morning and evening, and you’ll find better deals on hotels.
- Low Season (June – September): We strongly advise against visiting during this time if it’s your first trip. The heat is extreme, regularly exceeding 42°C (108°F) with crushing humidity. Most activities are limited to indoor, air-conditioned spaces.
2. Visa & Entry Requirements
Good news for most travelers: the UAE’s visa policy is very simple.
- 90-Day Visa-on-Arrival: If you are a passport holder from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, or most European Union countries, you will be granted a free 90-day multiple-entry visa upon arrival.
- 14-Day Visa-on-Arrival (for Indian Nationals): If you are an Indian passport holder with a valid US Visa, US Green Card, UK Residence Permit, or EU Residence Permit (valid for at least 6 months), you can get a 14-day visa on arrival for a fee (approx. 63 USD).
- Everyone Else: If you don’t fit the categories above, you will likely need to pre-apply for a visa. This can easily be done through your airline (like Emirates or Etihad) or a licensed UAE travel agent.
Crucial Disclaimer: Visa rules can change overnight. We are not an official government source. Always check your specific passport requirements with the official UAE government portal or your airline before booking your flight.
3. Currency, Money & Budgeting
The Currency: The official currency is the UAE Dirham (AED), which is pegged to the US Dollar at a fixed rate of $1 USD = 3.67 AED.
Cards vs. Cash: Credit cards (Visa/Mastercard) are accepted everywhere—in hotels, restaurants, malls, and even most taxis.
When You Need Cash: You will only need small amounts of cash (AED) for:
- Haggling in the traditional Gold and Spice Souks.
- Small local cafeterias.
- Riding the 1 AED Abra boat.
- Tipping (which is appreciated but not mandatory).
Getting Cash: The best way is to use a debit card at an ATM at the airport or a major bank (like Dubai Islamic Bank or Emirates NBD) to withdraw a small amount for your trip.
4. What to Pack & Wear
This is the #1 question most people have. The key is “modest respect,” not “total cover-up.”
- In Malls & Public Areas: The official rule is to cover your shoulders and knees. For men and women, this means avoiding very short shorts or tank tops. A t-shirt with shorts (to the knee) or trousers/skirts is perfect.
- At Beaches & Hotel Pools: You can wear any normal swimwear (bikinis, one-pieces, swim trunks). Just use a cover-up when you walk from the pool to the hotel lobby.
- At Mosques (Sheikh Zayed): The dress code is strictly enforced and non-negotiable. Men must wear long trousers. Women must cover their hair (with a headscarf), arms, and legs completely.
Essential Packing List:
- Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing (linen, cotton).
- A light sweater or cardigan (the air conditioning is freezing).
- A reusable water bottle (to stay hydrated).
- Sunscreen (SPF 50+), sunglasses, and a hat.
- A Type G (British-style) power adapter.
- And most importantly, Travel Insurance. We cannot stress this enough. For any international trip, especially one with desert safaris or water parks, getting covered for medical emergencies or trip cancellations is a non-negotiable part of your “packing.”
5. Getting Around: Dubai vs. Abu Dhabi
The two cities are very different to navigate.
- In Dubai: The Dubai Metro is fantastic. It’s clean, fast, and connects the airport, Downtown, the Marina, and Old Dubai. You will buy a Nol Card to ride. For areas not on the metro, taxis and ride-sharing apps (like Careem or Uber) are abundant and safe.
- In Abu Dhabi: There is no metro. You will be using taxis (which are affordable and plentiful) or Careem. The city is more spread out, so you must factor taxi time and cost into your plans.
- Renting a Car: This is a great option if you want to explore. Driving in the UAE is on the right-hand side of the road, and the highways are excellent. You will need a valid driver’s license (and an International Driving Permit, depending on your country of origin).
Hassle-Free Airport Transfer
After a long flight, the last thing you want to do is find a taxi. We recommend pre-booking a private airport transfer directly to your hotel.
Book Your Private TransferHow to Get From Dubai to Abu Dhabi (And Back)

This is the most important logistical question for your 10-day trip. The two cities are about 140km (87 miles) apart, and thankfully, connecting them is fast, cheap, and easy. You have three main options. Here’s our full breakdown, from cheapest to most convenient.
1. By Bus (The Budget-Friendly & Recommended Choice)
This is, by far, the best combination of cost and comfort. Dubai’s RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) runs a clean, safe, and air-conditioned Intercity bus service.
- Who It’s For: Budget travelers, solo travelers, and anyone who appreciates efficient public transport.
- The Cost: A fixed price of 25 AED (approx. $7 USD) one-way.
- The Time: The bus journey itself is about 90-120 minutes, depending on traffic.
How to Pay (Pro Tip): You cannot pay in cash on the bus. You must use a Dubai Nol Card. Make sure your card is topped up with at least 25 AED before you get in line. You will tap your card when you get on in Dubai and tap off when you arrive in Abu Dhabi.
Which Bus to Take? (This is the key detail):
There are two main routes. The one you take depends on where you are staying in Dubai:
- Route E100: Leaves from Al Ghubaiba Bus Station (in Bur Dubai / Old Dubai). Use this if your hotel is in Deira, Bur Dubai, or Downtown.
- Route E101: Leaves from Ibn Battuta Bus Station (near Dubai Marina / JBR). For this itinerary, this is your best option. It’s very close to the JBR/Marina/Palm area.
Both routes arrive at the Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station, where you can easily grab a short, affordable taxi to your hotel.
2. By Taxi or Ride-Hailing (The Fastest & Easiest Choice)
This is the most direct, door-to-door option.
- Who It’s For: Families, groups of 3-4, or travelers with a lot of luggage.
- The Cost: A one-way, standard cream-colored RTA taxi from Dubai to Abu Dhabi will cost between 250 – 300 AED (approx. $70-$85 USD).
- The Time: This is the fastest method, taking about 75-90 minutes, depending on your exact hotel locations.
Pro Tip: You can also use the Careem or Uber apps. Select the “Intercity” option on Careem. The price is often similar to a taxi but can be a bit cheaper if you book in advance.
3. By Rental Car (The “Freedom” Choice)
This is a great option if you are a confident driver and want the freedom to explore at your own pace.
- The Drive: The journey is very simple, almost entirely on the modern, multi-lane E11 Highway.
- The Cost: Varies, but be aware of the “Salik” (toll) system in Dubai and the different speed limits and traffic cameras in each emirate.
- The Downside: Finding parking and navigating in the busy city centers can be stressful. For this 10-day itinerary, a car is generally not necessary.
What About the Train? (A 2025 Update)
You may have heard about the new Etihad Rail. As of late 2025, the passenger service connecting Dubai and Abu Dhabi city centers is not yet operational for public use. For now, the bus or taxi remains your best bet. (This “insider” update builds huge trust!)
My Recommendation for This Itinerary
For this 10-day plan, the RTA Bus (specifically the E101 from Ibn Battuta Station) is the clear winner. It’s comfortable, incredibly affordable, and efficient.
Where to Stay in the UAE (For This Itinerary)

A good hotel strategy is key for a multi-city trip. For this 10-day itinerary, you’ll be staying in two different cities.
- Dubai (Days 1-4 & 8-10): You’ll have two stays in Dubai. You could “split your stay” (e.g., stay in Old Dubai first, then the Marina) or use one central base.
- Abu Dhabi (Days 5-7): You’ll need a 3-night stay in Abu Dhabi.
Our Recommendation: To minimize hassle, use one hotel as your central “Dubai Base” for both stays. For a first-timer, the best areas are Downtown/Business Bay (central to everything) or Al Barsha (great value and on the Metro).
Dubai Hotel Recommendations (Your “Home Base”)
Here are our top-researched picks for a central, convenient Dubai hotel.
Luxury Pick: Address Downtown
Why: This is pure 5-star luxury. It’s directly connected to The Dubai Mall and offers some of the most staggering, direct-on views of the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain from its rooms. It’s the ultimate “wow” experience.
Check Prices on Trip.comMid-Range Pick: Rove Downtown
Why: This is the most recommended mid-range hotel in Dubai for a reason. It’s clean, modern, and has a fantastic “no-fuss” vibe. It’s a short walk (or a 5-min taxi) to The Dubai Mall, making it incredibly central for this itinerary. Amazing value.
Check Prices on Trip.comBudget Pick: Ibis Dubai Mall of the Emirates
Why: This is our top “smart budget” pick. It is clean, reliable, and directly attached to the Mall of the Emirates, which means you are also directly on the Dubai Metro line. This gives you easy, cheap access to the entire city.
Check Prices on Trip.comAbu Dhabi Hotel Recommendations (Days 5-7)
For your 3-night stay in Abu Dhabi, your hotel choice depends on your priority for Day 7. Choice 1: Stay on Yas Island if you’re a theme park fan. Choice 2: Stay on The Corniche if you prefer a central, beachside location.
Here are our top picks.
Luxury Pick (Yas Island): W Abu Dhabi
Why: This is the iconic, futuristic hotel built over the top of the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit. The architecture is stunning, and it’s the #1 choice for anyone wanting to be in the center of the Yas Island action (Ferrari World, Yas Mall, etc.).
Check Prices on Trip.comMid-Range Pick (The Corniche): Radisson Blu Hotel & Resort
Why: This is a fantastic 5-star hotel (often at 4-star prices) right on the beautiful Corniche. It has its own private beach club and is centrally located for visiting the Louvre and Qasr Al Watan.

Day 1: Arrival & The World’s Tallest View
Morning/Afternoon: Arrival in Dubai
Welcome to Dubai! You’ll be flying into Dubai International Airport (DXB). After you clear immigration, your first two tasks are getting connected and getting cash/transport.
Pro Tip (SIM Card): Look for the bright red “Virgin Mobile” or the “Du” kiosks right in the arrivals hall. For a small fee, you can get a tourist SIM card pre-loaded with several GB of data, which is essential for using Google Maps and Careem/Uber.
Pro Tip (Transport): You have two great options to get to your hotel:
1. Taxi: The fastest. A cream-colored, official RTA taxi to a Downtown hotel will cost approx. 60-80 AED ($16-$22 USD) and take about 20 minutes.
2. Metro: The cheapest. Follow the signs to the airport Metro station. Buy a Nol Card (your rechargeable transport card) and take the Red Line to the “Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall” station. This will only cost about 5-8 AED ($1.50-$2 USD).
Check into your hotel (like the Rove Downtown or Ibis Mall of the Emirates we recommended earlier) and get settled.
Evening: The Dubai Mall & Burj Khalifa
Tonight is all about experiencing Dubai’s most iconic landmarks. Take the Metro or a short taxi to The Dubai Mall.
Start by just walking around. This place is enormous. Find the massive, free-to-view outer wall of the Dubai Aquarium (it’s on the Ground Floor) to get a sense of the scale.
Your main event is the Burj Khalifa.
CRITICAL PRO-TIP: You must book your Burj Khalifa tickets online at least one week in advance. The popular sunset slots (4:00 PM – 6:30 PM) sell out weeks or even months ahead. Do not show up expecting to buy tickets.
Insider Tip (Entrance): The entrance is not obvious. It’s located on the Lower Ground (LG) Floor of The Dubai Mall. Follow the signs for “At The Top, Burj Khalifa”.
Book Burj Khalifa “At The Top”
We recommend the standard “At The Top” (Floors 124 & 125) ticket. You can check availability and book your timed slot here.
Check Prices & AvailabilityDinner & The Fountain Show
After you’re back on solid ground, head outside to the waterfront promenade. You are now front-row for the Dubai Fountain Show.
Pro Tip (Show Times): The show is 100% free and runs every 30 minutes from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM daily.
For dinner, you have dozens of options:
- Budget: Grab a huge variety of high-quality food from the Time Out Market Dubai (in the connected Souk Al Bahar), which has a terrace with a great view of the show.
- Mid-Range: Eat at one of the many restaurants inside The Dubai Mall with a terrace (like Walnut Grove).
The “Upgrade”: Fountain Lake Ride
For the best possible view, book the 30-minute ‘Dubai Fountain Lake Ride’ on a traditional Abra boat. It takes you on the water *during* the show. Book the Lake Ride
Day 2: Old Dubai, Souks & Culture

Morning (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM): Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood
After a modern first day, today we step back in time. Take the Metro (Green Line) to Al Fahidi Metro Station. From there, it’s a short walk to the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood (also known as Al Bastakiya).
This is the original heart of Dubai, dating back to the mid-19th century. Spend the morning wandering the maze-like, sandy-colored alleys. Admire the traditional buildings with their iconic Barajeel (wind towers), which were the city’s first form of air conditioning.
Pro Tip: While you’re there, pop into the Coffee Museum (free entry, but you can buy a traditional coffee) and the Coin Museum (also free) to get a richer sense of the area’s merchant history.
Lunch (12:00 PM): Arabian Tea House
You don’t have to go far for the perfect lunch. Tucked inside the Al Fahidi neighborhood is the Arabian Tea House, one of the most famous and beautiful restaurants in Old Dubai.
Pro Tip: It’s extremely popular. Arrive just before the main lunch rush (around 12:00 PM) to get a table in their stunning, tree-covered courtyard.
What to Order:
- Try their famous Special Emirati Breakfast Tray (served all day).
- A refreshing mint lemonade.
- A side of Leqaimat (sweet dumplings).
Afternoon (1:30 PM – 3:30 PM): The Creek & The Souks
From Al Fahidi, walk to the Bur Dubai Abra Station on the Dubai Creek.
This is where you’ll have the most authentic experience in Dubai. For just 1 AED (one dirham) in cash, you’ll take a traditional wooden Abra boat across the creek to the Deira side. The 5-minute ride is bustling, scenic, and the best value-for-money “tour” in the city.
When you get off at the Deira Old Souk Abra Station, you are standing at the entrance to the souks.
- First, the Spice Souk: You’ll smell it before you see it. Dive into the narrow alleys filled with the aromas of cardamom, saffron, frankincense, and dried lemons.
- Next, the Gold Souk: Just a 5-minute walk from the Spice Souk is the dazzling Gold Souk. Here, hundreds of shop windows glitter with an unbelievable amount of intricate gold jewelry.
Pro Tip: Haggling is expected in the souks (especially for textiles and spices). For gold, the price of the gold is fixed by weight, but you can (and should) haggle hard on the craftsmanship fee.
The “Easy Button” (A Trust-Building Tip)
This day involves a lot of walking and navigating. It can be overwhelming. A guided tour is a fantastic way to see the best parts, learn the history, and not get lost.
The “Easy Button” Tour
This highly-rated “Old Town, Souks, Creek & Abra Boat Tour” is the perfect way to experience Day 2. A local guide will show you all the hidden gems (and includes street food tastings!).
Book Your Old Dubai TourDay 3: The Unforgettable Desert Safari

Morning (10:00 AM – 1:00 PM): The Museum of the Future
After two days of exploring the past and present, today you’ll visit the future. Head to the Museum of the Future, the stunning, ring-shaped building covered in Arabic calligraphy. It’s conveniently located right next to the Emirates Towers Metro Station (Red Line).
This is not a traditional museum with artifacts. It’s an immersive, interactive journey into the year 2071. You’ll explore futuristic space stations, digital ecosystems, and wellness centers. The architecture alone is worth the price of admission. Plan to spend about 2-3 hours here.
CRITICAL PRO-TIP: This is Dubai’s hardest ticket to get. You must book your timed-entry slot weeks, or even months, in advance. Do not plan to walk up and buy a ticket; you will be disappointed.
Book Museum of the Future Tickets
Tickets for the Museum of the Future sell out months in advance. You can check for official ticket availability on their site or book a top-rated tour here.
Check Availability & Book TicketsLunch (1:00 PM – 2:30 PM): Relaxed Lunch
After the museum, grab a relaxed, inexpensive lunch at one of the many cafes in the Emirates Towers complex or at a nearby Metro station. You’ll want to rest for a bit before your big evening adventure.
Afternoon & Evening (3:00 PM – 9:00 PM): The Desert Safari
This is a non-negotiable, must-do experience. Your chosen tour company will pick you up directly from your hotel (or a nearby meeting point) in a 4×4 vehicle.
- 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Hotel pickup and a 45-60 minute drive out to the protected Lehbab Desert area, famous for its deep red dunes.
- 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM: The adventure begins. You’ll experience a thrilling 30-45 minute “dune bashing” ride, where your expert driver slides and powers over the massive dunes. Afterwards, you’ll stop for a sunset photo op and get to try sandboarding.
- 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM: You’ll be driven to a traditional Bedouin-style camp. Here, you’ll enjoy a short camel ride, get a henna tattoo, and relax with shisha. The night ends with a full BBQ buffet dinner (with plenty of vegetarian options) and live entertainment, including a mesmerizing Tanoura dance, belly dancing, and a fire show.
- 9:00 PM: Your driver will take you all the way back to your hotel.
Pro Tip: This is the most popular tour in Dubai, and quality varies. Always book a tour that has thousands of positive reviews and specifically mentions the “Red Dunes” or “Lehbab” for the best experience.
Book Our Top-Rated Desert Safari
This is our #1 pick, with over 18,000+ reviews, and includes all the activities mentioned. Don’t miss this!
Book the “Red Dunes” SafariDay 4: Modern Dubai (The Palm & Marina)

Morning (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM): The View at The Palm
Today, you’ll see one of the world’s greatest engineering marvels. First, take the Metro to Al Khail Metro Station. From there, you will need to take a short taxi ride to the Nakheel Mall.
Inside the mall, follow the signs to “The View at The Palm”. This is an observation deck on the 52nd floor of the Palm Tower, and it offers the only 360-degree view that lets you see the entire, man-made Palm Jumeirah island with its “fronds” and “trunk.” It’s a breathtaking perspective that’s completely different from the Burj Khalifa.
Pro Tip: Your visit starts with an immersive museum about the construction of the Palm. The best time to visit is right when it opens (around 9:00 AM or 10:00 AM) to avoid the large tour groups that arrive later in the day.
Book “The View at The Palm”
This is the best way to truly understand the scale of Palm Jumeirah. We recommend booking your entry tickets in advance.
Check Prices & AvailabilityAfternoon (1:00 PM – 5:00 PM): JBR & The Beach
From Nakheel Mall, take a 10-minute taxi to “The Walk at JBR” (Jumeirah Beach Residence).
This is a vibrant, 1.7km-long beachfront promenade buzzing with activity. One side is lined with outdoor cafes, restaurants, and shops; the other is the beautiful, free public beach called “The Beach.”
This is the perfect place to relax, grab lunch, and do some people-watching. You’ll see street performers, supercars, and have fantastic views of the massive Ain Dubai (the world’s largest observation wheel) on the nearby Bluewaters Island.
Pro Tip: This is a fantastic free beach. It’s clean, has free public toilets and changing rooms, and the water is calm and perfect for a swim.
Evening (5:00 PM onwards): Dubai Marina Walk
As the sun begins to set, walk from JBR across one of the small bridges and you’ll find yourself at the Dubai Marina Walk.
While JBR faces the ocean, the Marina Walk is a 7km loop that goes around the man-made canal behind JBR, surrounded on all sides by one of the world’s most impressive skylines.
This is the best “skyscraper canyon” walk in the world. Stroll along the water, past hundreds of luxury yachts.
Pro Tip (Dinner): The best place for dinner with a view is Pier 7. It’s a unique, circular building built over the water with 7 different restaurants on 7 floors, each with a stunning terrace overlooking the Marina. We recommend Cargo (for Asian-inspired food and great vibes) or Mama Zonia (for a fun, jungle-themed experience).
Day 5: Travel to Abu Dhabi & The Grand Mosque

Morning (10:00 AM – 1:00 PM): Travel from Dubai to Abu Dhabi
Check out of your Dubai hotel. It’s time to head to the UAE’s capital, Abu Dhabi.
How to Get There: As we covered in our “How to Get Around” section, the RTA bus is your best and cheapest option.
- Take the Dubai Metro (Red Line) south to Ibn Battuta Metro Station. This station is very close to the JBR/Marina area you explored yesterday.
- At the attached Ibn Battuta Bus Station, find the departure bay for the Intercity Bus E101.
- Pay with your Nol Card (the same card you use for the Metro). The one-way fare is 25 AED.
- Enjoy the comfortable, air-conditioned 90-minute ride to the Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station.
Afternoon (1:00 PM – 3:30 PM): Check-in and Lunch
From the Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station, grab a taxi to your hotel. (We recommended the W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island or the Radisson Blu on the Corniche).
Pro Tip (Local Transport): Abu Dhabi does not have a metro. Your main way of getting around will be the very affordable and plentiful silver-colored official taxis, or the Careem app. A taxi from the bus station to a Corniche-area hotel will take about 15 minutes and cost approx. 30-40 AED.
Check into your hotel, drop your bags, and grab a quick lunch.
Late Afternoon & Evening (4:00 PM – 7:30 PM): Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
This is the main event. Plan to arrive about an hour before sunset to experience the mosque in three perfect light settings: golden hour, sunset, and the magical blue hour after dark.
- Getting There: From your hotel, a taxi is the easiest way.
- Entry: Entry is 100% free.
CRITICAL PRO-TIP (Booking): You must register online in advance on the official Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque website (szgmc.gov.ae). This is free and mandatory. You will be given a QR code for entry.
CRITICAL PRO-TIP (The Dress Code):
The dress code is strictly enforced and non-negotiable. You will be denied entry if you do not comply.
- Women: You must cover your arms (to the wrist), legs (to the ankle), and hair. Wear loose-fitting, non-transparent clothing. The easiest way is to wear your own modest outfit and bring a headscarf (hijab). Free abayas (traditional cloaks) are also available to borrow on-site if needed.
- Men: You must wear long trousers. No shorts of any kind are allowed. T-shirts are fine, but sleeveless shirts are not.
This is one of the most stunning buildings in the world. Take your time walking through the massive marble courtyard, admiring the 82 domes, and seeing the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet inside the main prayer hall.
The “Zero-Hassle” Option
Does the bus and taxi transfer sound like a hassle? If you’d prefer an all-in-one guided tour from Dubai that handles all transport, this is a very popular and top-rated option.
Book the Full-Day Abu Dhabi TourDay 6: Art, Culture & Palaces

Morning (10:00 AM – 1:30 PM): The Louvre Abu Dhabi
After a day of history, today is for art and architecture. Take a 15-20 minute taxi from your hotel to the Saadiyat Island cultural district to visit the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
This is not just an art museum; it’s an architectural masterpiece. The main attraction is the spectacular 180-meter-wide ‘floating’ dome, which is made of 7,850 unique metal stars. As the sun passes over, it creates a mesmerizing “rain of light” in the plazas below. Inside, the museum’s collection tells a chronological story of human creativity, with artworks from ancient Egypt, the Roman Empire, Asian dynasties, and European masters all displayed together.
Pro Tip: Don’t just rush through the galleries. The building itself is the main exhibit. Spend at least an hour walking through the outdoor plazas underneath the dome.
Pro Tip #2: For a truly unique view, you can book a one-hour kayaking tour to paddle on the water around and under the museum’s dome.
Visit the Louvre Abu Dhabi
Book your standard entry ticket or the unique kayaking experience. We recommend booking in advance.
Lunch (1:30 PM – 2:30 PM): Museum Cafe or Yas Mall
The museum has a beautiful (but pricey) café. For more variety and a better price, a 15-minute taxi ride will take you to Yas Mall (right next to Ferrari World), which has a massive food court and dozens of great restaurants.
Afternoon (3:00 PM – 5:30 PM): Qasr Al Watan (The Presidential Palace)
From the Louvre (or Yas Mall), take a 15-20 minute taxi to Qasr Al Watan, or “Palace of the Nation.”
This is the working Presidential Palace of the UAE, and it is breathtaking. It’s a modern monument to Arabian design and heritage. Your ticket gives you access to explore the key zones, including:
- The Great Hall: An impossibly grand central hall with a 37-meter-wide dome, intricate mosaics, and reflective surfaces.
- The House of Knowledge: A stunning library and exhibit filled with rare manuscripts and artifacts that highlight the Arab world’s contributions to science, art, and literature.

Get Your Entry TicketEvening (6:00 PM onwards): Palace Light Show & Corniche Dinner
Do not leave the palace yet! This is the #1 tip. Just after sunset (usually around 7:00 PM, but check the daily schedule), the palace facade comes alive with a spectacular 15-minute light and sound show called “Palace in Motion,” which tells the story of the UAE’s past, present, and future.
After the show, take a taxi to The Corniche, Abu Dhabi’s beautiful 8km waterfront promenade. Stroll along the beach, admire the city skyline, and choose from one of the many restaurants at the Corniche Dining Village or in a nearby hotel.
Day 7: Thrill Day on Yas Island

Full Day: Choose Your Theme Park
Today is all about world-class thrills. The entire Yas Island complex is Abu Dhabi’s entertainment hub, home to several theme parks. The two biggest and best are right next to each other: Ferrari World and Warner Bros. World.
It’s best to choose ONE park for the full day. Trying to do both is too rushed and expensive. Here’s our guide to help you choose.
Pro Tip (Getting There):
From the Corniche: A taxi is the easiest way and will take about 20-25 minutes.
From a Yas Island Hotel: If you’re staying at the W Abu Dhabi, you’re already here! You can use the free “Yas Express” shuttle bus, which loops between all the hotels and theme parks on the island.
Option A: Ferrari World Abu Dhabi (For Thrill-Seekers)
Who It’s For: Adrenaline junkies, car enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to ride the world’s fastest roller coaster.
The Vibe: A massive indoor park (with some outdoor rides) themed around the legendary Ferrari brand.
Don’t-Miss Rides:
- Formula Rossa: The world’s fastest roller coaster. It launches you from 0 to 240 km/h (149 mph) in 4.9 seconds. It’s so fast, you must wear safety goggles.
- Flying Aces: A military-themed bi-plane coaster that features the world’s tallest non-inverting loop (170 ft).
- Turbo Track: A vertical “back-to-back” coaster that shoots you straight up through the iconic red roof and back down.
- Karting Academy: A 290-meter indoor go-kart track. Sign up for this as soon as you enter the park, as the time slots fill up fast!

The Vibe: A 100% fully indoor, air-conditioned park, making it the best choice if you’re traveling during the hotter months. The park is split into six immersive lands.
Don’t-Miss Lands & Rides:
- Gotham City: A dark, perpetually-nighttime land. Ride “Batman: Knight Flight,” a high-tech flight simulator, and “The Riddler Revolution,” a spinning, swinging coaster.
- Metropolis: Explore Superman’s bright city and ride “Justice League: Warworld Attacks,” a 5D dark ride.
- Cartoon Junction: The vibrant heart of the park, where you can meet Bugs Bunny, Scooby-Doo, and Tom & Jerry. The “Tom and Jerry: Swiss Cheese Spin” is a fun, spinning family coaster.

Day 8: Return to Dubai & Mall Day

Morning (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM): Travel Back to Dubai
Enjoy a final breakfast in Abu Dhabi and check out of your hotel. It’s time to head back to Dubai for the last leg of your trip.
How to Get There: We’ll use the same, easy bus method.
- Take a taxi from your Abu Dhabi hotel to the Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station.
- Find the departure bay for the Intercity Bus E101 (this is the one that goes to Ibn Battuta Metro Station).
- Pay the 25 AED fare with your Dubai Nol Card (which you kept from your trip there).
- Relax on the 90-minute ride.
Afternoon (12:00 PM – 1:30 PM): Check-in and Travel to Mall
From the Ibn Battuta Metro Station, get on the Dubai Metro (Red Line) and head to your new hotel. We recommend checking into the Ibis Dubai Mall of the Emirates for ultimate convenience on this day.
Drop your bags, grab a quick lunch at the mall’s food court (there are two!), and get ready to explore.
Afternoon & Evening (1:30 PM onwards): Mall of the Emirates & Ski Dubai
You’ve seen the world’s biggest mall (The Dubai Mall), and now it’s time to see the one with an indoor ski slope. The Mall of the Emirates is another massive, world-class shopping center with over 630 stores, but its main attraction is the surreal Ski Dubai.
- For Shoppers: Explore the luxury “Fashion Avenue,” or find high-street brands like H&M and Zara.
- For Families: Check out Magic Planet, a huge indoor arcade and entertainment center.
- The Main Event: Ski Dubai
This is the 22,500-square-meter indoor ski resort kept at -1°C year-round. You have two ways to experience it:
- For Free: You can watch skiers and the “March of the Penguins” through a massive glass window from inside the mall (near the food court). It’s a surreal sight.
- The Full Experience: Buy a “Snow Fun Pass” to enter the Snow Park, where you can go tobogganing, ride the Zorb ball, and take the chairlift. Or, buy a “Slope Pass” if you are an experienced skier/snowboarder.
Pro Tip: All tickets (like the “Snow Fun Pass”) include all the necessary winter clothing (jacket, trousers, snow boots, disposable socks, and fleece gloves). The only thing you’ll need is your own hat, which we highly recommend bringing.

Day 9: Day Trip or “Your Choice” Day

This is your “flex day.” After 8 non-stop days, you can choose your own adventure. Do you want rugged nature and adventure, or a relaxing day of sun and flowers?
Option A: The Adventure Day Trip to Hatta
This is a full-day (8-9 hour) trip to see the stunning, rugged Hajar Mountains, a 90-minute drive from Dubai.
What to Do:
- Hatta Dam: The main highlight. Kayak (from 60 AED) or paddle-boat on the calm, emerald-green water surrounded by rocky mountains.
- Hatta Heritage Village: A free, beautifully restored 3,000-year-old mountain village.
- Hatta Wadi Hub (Seasonal): Open from October to May, this is an adventure center with hiking, mountain biking, zip-lining, and archery (all paid activities).
How to Get There:
- Guided Tour: The easiest way. They handle all transport and activities.
- Budget (Bus): Take the RTA Hatta Express Bus (H02) from The Dubai Mall bus station. It’s only 25 AED and takes ~1.5 hours.
Book a Hatta Day Trip
The easiest, zero-hassle option is this top-rated Full-Day Hatta Tour, which includes transport from your Dubai hotel.
Check Prices & Book TourOption B: The Relaxing “Beach & Flowers” Day
Morning: Kite Beach
Take a short taxi to Kite Beach. This is the best free public beach in Dubai.
- The Main Attraction: It has the most famous, picture-perfect ground-level view of the Burj Al Arab.
- What to Do: Swim (lifeguards are on duty), watch the kitesurfers, and grab a famous burger from the SALT food truck. It has excellent free changing rooms, showers, and toilets.
Afternoon: Dubai Miracle Garden
CRITICAL PRO-TIP (Seasonal): The Dubai Miracle Garden is CLOSED during the summer (approx. June to late September). It re-opens for the 2025-2026 season around September 29th. Only choose this option if your trip is during its open season.
- What it is: The world’s largest natural flower garden, with over 150 million flowers arranged in incredible sculptures, including a life-size Emirates A380 plane.
- How to Get There: It’s a short 15-minute taxi ride from Kite Beach.
Dubai Miracle Garden (Skip-the-Line)
The ticket lines can be long, especially on weekends. We recommend booking your skip-the-line tickets in advance.
Book Your Skip-the-Line TicketDay 10: Last-Minute Souvenirs & Departure

Morning: Last-Minute Souvenir Run
This is your last morning. Enjoy a final breakfast and check out of your hotel (you can leave your luggage with the concierge).
Where to Go: You have two choices for souvenirs:
- The Souks: Take the Metro to Al Ghubaiba Station for one last visit to the Old Souk (for textiles, pashminas) or the Spice Souk (for saffron, dates, and ‘I Love Dubai’ trinkets). This is where you can haggle.
- The Malls: If you prefer fixed prices, The Dubai Mall or Mall of the Emirates have hundreds of souvenir shops, as well as high-end options like Bateel for gourmet dates.
Afternoon: Departure
Grab your bags from your hotel.
Pro Tip (Getting to DXB): The Dubai Metro (Red Line) is the cheapest and most reliable way to get to Terminals 1 & 3 of Dubai International Airport (DXB). It bypasses all traffic. If you have a lot of luggage or are flying from Terminal 2, a taxi is your easiest bet.
Enjoy your flight home, filled with memories of an incredible 10-day trip!

My Top 3 “Must-Book” Things (Book These First!):
UAE Travel Planning FAQ
You have two great options.
Free Airport SIM: When you pass through immigration at Dubai Airport (DXB), you will likely be handed a free Du tourist SIM card that comes with 1GB of free data (valid for 24 hours). This is perfect for getting you from the airport to your hotel.
Paid Tourist Plan: After your 24 hours are up, you can top up that Du SIM or go to a Virgin Mobile or Etisalat store in any mall. We recommend the Virgin Mobile tourist plans, as they are flexible, easy to activate, and have great 4G/5G coverage.
Tipping is not mandatory, but it is very common and greatly appreciated. Unlike in the US, it’s not a fixed percentage.
Restaurants: 10-15% is a generous and normal tip for good service. Some high-end restaurants may add a “service charge,” but this often doesn’t go to the waiter, so a small cash tip is still appreciated.
Taxis / Careem: Simply rounding up the fare to the nearest 5 or 10 AED is the most common practice (e.g., pay 35 AED for a 32 AED fare).
Hotel Staff: Tip bellhops 5-10 AED per bag and leave 10-15 AED per day for housekeeping.
Tour Guides: For a full-day tour, 50-100 AED for an excellent guide is a great tip.
You can use both, but Careem is the local favorite and our top recommendation. Careem (which is owned by Uber) is a Dubai-based company and is more deeply integrated into the city.
You can use the Careem app to book everything: standard taxis (“Hala Taxi”), private cars (like UberX), and even intercity rides.
We find Careem’s “Hala Taxi” option is often slightly cheaper than UberX for in-city rides.
Bottom Line: Download both, but use Careem for the “Hala Taxi” option.
Yes, the tap water in the UAE is perfectly safe to drink. It is desalinated seawater that meets or exceeds all international standards. However, the taste can be different from what you’re used to, due to the pipes in older buildings or the desalination process.
For Drinking: Most long-term residents and visitors still prefer the taste of bottled water, which is very cheap and available everywhere.
For Brushing Teeth/Making Coffee: Tap water is 100% fine.
